Ginny Wolff interviews Kristin Eberhard, Senior Researcher for Sightline Institute, whose work focuses on climate change policy and democracy reform. In this interview, Kristin talks about how changes in the way we elect our government representatives would improve the quality of our democracy. She discusses how most of the democracies in the world use some version of "proportional representation" to elect representatives that more closely mirror their constituents. Such reforms also remove the incentives for "negative campaigning," reduce the influence of big money on elections, remove the "spoiler effect" of third party candidates, and could lessen the partisan gridlock that paralyzes our legislatures,.
Kristin Eberhard also describes the major provisions of the Washington Government Accountability Act, I-1464, which will be on the Washington state ballot in November.
