DARK Act with Bee Faxon - November 16, 2016

Jodie Buller talks with Beverly Faxon, whose recent article in the Skagit Valley Food Co-op's newsletter details the history and context behind the passage of what has come to be known as the Deny Americans the Right to Know Act, a labeling bill which President Obama signed into law in July, 2016.

Over the last few decades, genetic engineering has dominated major crops like corn, soy, canola, sugar beets, cotton, and alfalfa. The fight for mandated labeling of GE ingredients had been taking place at the state level, with Vermont's labeling law slated to go into effect and major corporations beginning to label their products, until this new law superceded state efforts. But there are problems with the bill, which became known as the Dark Act 2.0.

This conversation looks at the history of our complicated relationship with GMOs, and what consumer options are now that this bill has become law.
