The Alliance for Jobs and Clean Energy (AJCE) is a coalition of 176 supporting organizations including businesses, non-profits and community groups. For today's show, two members of the AJCE: Sameer Ranade, Clean Energy Campaign Associate for the Washington Environmental Council, and Steve Garey, retired refinery worker who serves on the AJCE steering committee, join Ginny Wolff to discuss a ballot initiative the Alliance intends to put on the Washington State ballot in 2018.
The Alliance for Jobs and Clean Energy has been working for over 3 years on an environmental policy that effectively reduces carbon emissions, and helps us transition to a clean energy economy. The ballot initiative they have designed would put a price on carbon, and use the revenue to jump start a transition from fossil fuels to clean energy. The initiative is designed to mitigate effects of this transition on those disproportionately harmed such as low income workers and refinery workers; to build a more resilient environment that can face the challenges of climate change; and to invest in clean energy development.
