Muslims are perhaps the most demonized immigrant group in our country. Comprising only about 1% of our population, they are frequently the victims of bigotry, micro aggressions and hate crimes. For today's show, the Reverend Terry Kyllo of Anacortes joins Ginny Wolff to talk about his work partnering with Muslims to answer Islamophobia.
Pastor Kyllo feels that interfaith dialogue is critical, enabling us to live with each other given our cultural differences. He now works full time as the director of Neighbors in Faith, an interfaith effort to recognize Muslims as neighbors and partners in building a more peaceful world. With Muslim speakers, he co-leads a presentation called Faith Over Fear - an overview of the Islamophobia industry, the threat it poses to our nation and civil liberties, and what we can do about it together. This is an in-depth look at what makes Americans vulnerable to anti-Muslim propaganda, what allows the fear to grow, and how we can work together to build a movement which allows us to see each other as human beings and live together in peace.
Reverend Kyllo will present "Faith Over Fear" on Nov. 13 at 3 pm at St. Paul's Episcopal Church on 18th St. in Mt. Vernon.
