Supreme Court Decision On Immigration - July 6, 2016

June 15 marked the fourth anniversary of the DACA Program, (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals), that provides benefits to young immigrants living in the United States who arrived with their parents. In November 2014, President Obama expanded the existing DACA Program and created the Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents (DAPA) program to allow parents of U.S. citizens and permanent residents to remain in the U.S. and work. The executive actions creating these programs were challenged in the courts by 25 states and arrived at the Supreme Court in the case of United States v. Texas. On June 23, the Supreme Court effectively blocked President Obama's executive actions in a 4-4 split decision. It will be up to Congress or a new president to implement new laws.
