A book about an oil spill would usually not be considered "light" reading, but today's interview with David Anderson about his book "Spill, A Story of Oil and Orcas in the Salish Sea" features such a book. Alarmed by plans to triple the capacity of the Kinder Morgan pipeline in British Columbia (thereby greatly increasing tanker transport of tar sands through the Salish Sea), and hoping to write a novel people would want to read, Whidbey Island resident Dave Anderson has created an action-packed tale about a relatively small oil spill in the San Juan Islands. Dave's background as a commercial fisherman, four years in the Washington State Legislature, experience with The Oil Spill Prevention Task Force, and service on the board of Orca Network, makes this book as educational as it is entertaining.

In this interview with Ginny Wolff, Dave Anderson talks about the story he wrote and why he wrote it. He sounds a clarion call for public protest of the Kinder Morgan pipeline expansion proposal.

You can find "Spill, A Story of Oil and Orcas in the Salish Sea" at Village Books in Bellingham, Watermark Bookstore in Anacortes, and through Amazon. If possible, please support our locally owned, independent bookstores.
